Authority and onboarding

MC and DOT authority, BOC-3, UCR registration, carrier packets and broker setup — so you are active on the board instead of waiting on a form.

Getting your own authority

Running under your own authority means the loads, the relationships, the safety record and the margin are yours. It also means the obligations are yours, and they start the day the authority activates rather than the day you feel ready.

The registration itself is a sequence of forms. What catches new carriers is that the forms have dependencies — insurance filings and process agent designation have to be on record before authority becomes active, and a mistake at the start is discovered weeks later when nothing has moved.

We run the sequence in the right order and chase the parts that stall.

What is included

  • USDOT number and MC authority — the FMCSA registration completed and tracked through to active status.
  • BOC-3 — process agent designation filed, which every carrier needs on record before authority activates.
  • UCR registration — the annual Unified Carrier Registration completed for your fleet size.
  • Insurance coordination — working with your agent so the required filings reach FMCSA rather than sitting in someone's inbox.
  • Carrier packets — the document set brokers ask for, assembled once and reusable.
  • Broker and factor setup — onboarding with the brokers and the factor you will actually be working with.
  • Starter compliance file — driver qualification file, drug and alcohol programme enrolment and the record structure the first-year safety audit will look for.

How long it takes

Longer than anyone wants. The registration has a mandatory vetting period, insurance filings have to be accepted, and the BOC-3 has to clear. None of that is under our control or yours.

What is under our control is that nothing waits on us, and that you know at each point what is outstanding and who it is with. The delay that hurts is not the statutory one, it is the three weeks nobody realised a form had bounced.

FMCSA registration steps, fees and processing times change. We work to what is current at the time of your filing rather than to a number on a web page.

What happens the day it activates

Your authority going active is the beginning of the obligations, not the end of the process. From that day you have hours-of-service requirements, driver qualification requirements, a drug and alcohol testing programme, and a safety audit coming in the first year.

This is why the starter compliance file is part of onboarding rather than an upsell afterwards. Carriers who build it at activation pass the audit. Carriers who build it when the letter arrives usually do not.

Common questions

I do not have authority yet. Can you still help?

Yes. If you do not have authority we set it up for you first, including BOC-3 and UCR, and then dispatch can start once it is active.

How fast can I start taking loads?

If your authority is active and your insurance is in order, usually the next business day. New authority takes longer because the registration and BOC-3 have to clear first.

Can I just get set up and run it myself?

Yes. The setup-only plan covers authority, BOC-3 and UCR, a factoring introduction and a starter compliance file as a one-off. You can upgrade at any time.

Fifteen minutes on your equipment, lanes, home time and what you are being paid now. A dispatcher answers, not a call centre.
